Tyson Retz, PhD (*1982), obtained his PhD (2016) from the University of Melbourne, where he was also a postdoctoral fellow. He is the author of Empathy and History (Berghahn 2018), a dual exploration of empathy's intellectual and educational history, as well as numerous articles on core problems of historical theory and method. His current book project explores the concept of progress within different conceptions of history. Visiting appointments have taken him to the University of British Columbia (2014) and Tallinn University (2018). He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Cultural Studies and Languages of the University of Stavanger.

Tyson Retz, Dr. phil. (*1982), wurde 2016 an der Universität von Melbourne promoviert, wo er auch als Postdoktorand tätig war. Er ist Autor von "Empathy and History" (Berghahn 2018), einer Doppelstudie zur Geistes- und Bildungsgeschichte der Empathie, sowie zahlreicher Artikel zu Kernproblemen der historischen Theorie und Methode. Sein aktuelles Buchprojekt untersucht den Begriff des Fortschritts innerhalb verschiedener Geschichtsauffassungen. Gastdozenturen führten ihn an die Universität von Britisch-Kolumbien (2014) und die Universität Tallinn (2018). Gegenwärtig ist er Professor am Institut für Kulturwissenschaften und Sprachen der Universität Stavanger.
