Roberta Biasillo is an environmental historian and holds a PhD in Modern European History from the University of Bari (Italy). She is a Max Weber Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence.
Roberta started exploring Italian colonialism and imperialism in 2017-2018 when she was a fellow at the LMU – Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in Munich. She had the opportunity to carry out research at the Italian National Institute for Social Security as a visiting fellow in 2018-2019. She has a longstanding collaboration with and has worked at the Environmental Humanities Laboratory at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
Her main areas of expertise are territorial and forest issues in Modern Italy and colonial environmental history with a focus on North and East Africa. She is also interested in historical theory and environmental humanities research methodologies. In 2016 she worked as a teacher in a welcome unit for refugees and asylum seekers established and run by the Italian Ministry of the Interior. Roberta is a member of the European Society for Environmental History and serves as representative of young scholars in the fields of environmental history and humanities (ESEH NEXT Generation Action Team). Roberta Biasilloist Umwelthistorikerin und wurde in moderner europäischer Geschichte an der Universität Bari (Italien) promoviert. Sie ist Max Weber Fellow am Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies am Europäischen Hochschulinstitut in Florenz.
Roberta begann 2017-2018 mit der Erforschung des italienischen Kolonialismus und Imperialismus, als sie Fellow am LMU – Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in München war. 2018-2019 hatte sie die Möglichkeit, als Visiting Fellow am Italian National Institute for Social Security zu forschen. Sie pflegt eine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit dem Environmental Humanities Laboratory an der KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm und hat dort gearbeitet.
Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Territorial- und Waldfragen im modernen Italien und koloniale Umweltgeschichte mit Fokus auf Nord- und Ostafrika. Sie interessiert sich auch für historische Theorie und Forschungsmethoden der Environmental Humanities. Im Jahr 2016 arbeitete sie als Dozentin in einer Willkommens-Unit für Flüchtlinge und Asylsuchende, die vom italienischen Innenministerium eingerichtet und betrieben wird. Roberta ist Mitglied der Europäischen Gesellschaft für Umweltgeschichte und fungiert als Vertreterin des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses im Bereich der Umweltgeschichte und der Geisteswissenschaften (ESEH NEXT Generation Action Team).
