Gregg Herken is an emeritus professor of modern American diplomatic history at the University of California, Santa Cruz & Merced.  Between 1988 and 2003, he was chairman of the Department of Space History and curator of military space at the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
