Gerhard Lauer is professor for Digital Humanities at the University of Basel. From 2002 to 2017 he was professor for German studies at the University of Göttingen and has been invited guest professor at Bergamo, Coimbra, Dehli, Durham, St. Louis, Trento and Trieste. He is ordinary member of the Academy of Sciences at Göttingen, of the Swiss Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences and serve at board member of the DFG Committee on Scientific Library Services and Information Systems. His main research area are cognitive poetics, digital humanities, and German literary history. His recent book is on Reading in the Digital Age (2020).

Gerhard Lauer ist Professor für Digital Humanities an der Universität Basel. Er war von 2002 bis 2017 Professor für Deutsche Philologie an der Universität Göttingen und Gastprofessor in Bergamo, Coimbra, Dehli, Durham, St. Louis, Trento und Trieste. Seit 2008 ist er ordentliches Mitglied der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen, der Schweizerischen Akademie für Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften und Mitglied des DFG-Ausschusses für Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken und Informationssysteme. Seine Hauptarbeitsgebiete sind experimentelle Literaturwissenschaft, Digital Humanities und deutsche Literaturgeschichte. Sein jüngstes Buch handelt vom Lesen im digitalen Zeitalter (2020).
